Short-term Rentals (AirBnB, VRBO, HomeAway and Flipkey)

Both the City of Edmonton and City of Calgary have passed bylaws about the licencing of short-term rentals. The City of Edmonton’s bylaw about short-term rentals is already in effect. The City of Calgary’s bylaw about short-term rentals will come into effect on February 1, 2020.

This page provides information on short-term rentals in Edmonton only. Information about short-term rentals in Calgary will be added to this page. If you have a question about short-term rentals outside of Edmonton, contact your local municipality.

Making a Court Application in the Court of King's Bench (With an Application Form)

This court procedure booklet tells you what steps to take when:

  • You are making an application in the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta;
  • You already have a court file (e.g. divorce, family property, common law property);
  • The application you want to make is NOT under the Family Law Act; and
  • You have chosen not to get a lawyer and will be representing yourself throughout the court process.

Court of King’s Bench General Application with an Originating Application Form

You use an Originating Application when you do not already have an action in the Court of King’s Bench, and you want to make an application like the following:

  • Judicial Review;
  • Enforcement of a Judgment from outside Alberta;
  • Applications where there is no person to serve as defendant;
  • Applications under a statute, where the statute tells you to use an Originating Application, or where the statute says to make a court application, but doesn’t say how to do it
