Alberta Human Services - LGBTQ Support

The Government of Alberta is committed to celebrating and supporting all communities, including the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered and Questioning (LGBTQ) community. There are a number of online programs and support for the LGBTQ community that address issues such as discrimination, bullying, family violence and mental health issues. This page provides links to various programs and services to the LGBTQ community.

LGBTQ Resource - Alberta Civil Liberties Research Centre

The Alberta Civil Liberties Research Centre (ACLRC) has worked with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) communities for over 20 years. They have developed several publications, resources and services that help schools, community groups and organizations understand and support LGBT populations.

311 Call Centres

Non-emergency 311 call systems, used increasingly in Alberta cities, offer a number of advantages. They give citizens a quick, convenient way to report about problems in their neighborhoods, and get a response. Assistance with civic information and services. Services offered:

  • telephone assistance on civic information and services
  • online system to request a City service
  • information including but not restricted to Animal Services, General Bylaw Services, Fire Prevention Bureau, Parks, Recreation Programs and Facilities, Waste and Recycling Services, Waterworks and Waste Water

Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre

The Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre (SKCAC) is a non-profit organization that, together with their partners, takes a leadership role to advance the way our country understands and addresses child abuse. They work with their partner organizations to provide wrap-around services to assess, investigate, intervene, and support survivors of child abuse while bringing offenders to justice.

In Alberta, if you die without a will or if you leave property that is not disposed of by will, the Wills and Succession Act determines what will happen to your property.
