The Nature's Laws Project was developed in a partnership involving the Heritage Community Foundation and representatives of First Nations from Treaty 6, 7 and 8. The project is a study of the legal codes and traditional governance of Alberta’s First Nations in the areas covered by Treaties 6, 7 and 8. It was structured as having research and public education components and involved Elders, academics and legal historians. The material examined was evidence found in oral histories, as well as case law, and the scholarly literature relating to Aboriginal People.

The Natural Resources Conservation Board (NRCB) is an agency of the Government of Alberta and reports to the Minister of Sustainable Resource Development. Established in 1991, the NRCB has mandates under two Acts - the Natural Resources Conservation Board Act and the Agricultural Operation Practices Act. Under the Natural Resources Conservation Board Act, the NRCB reviews proposals that affect the province's non-energy natural resources. The NRCB has been responsible for regulating Alberta's confined feeding operations since 2002.
Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) is the federal ministry responsible for the development and use of Canada’s natural resources and the competitiveness of Canada’s natural resources products. They deal with the fields of energy, forests, and minerals and metals and use their expertise in earth sciences to build and maintain an up-to-date knowledge base of our landmass.
